Kauno Grūdai’s partnership with Dairy farms – doubling milk yields in just a few months

AB Kauno Grūdai, one of the largest feed producers in the Baltic States, continues its mission not only to supply high-quality products but also to act as a strategic partner for Lithuanian dairy farms. The latest collaboration results with farms demonstrate a clear breakthrough: within just a few months, both milk yields and quality indicators have significantly improved. These success stories prove that Kauno Grūdai is not just producing feed – they are enhancing farm efficiency.

Results That Speak for Themselves: A Twofold Increase at the Vėlavičius Farm

According to Vytautas Žilvytis, Head of the Cattle Breeding Department at Kauno Grūdai, their cooperation with farmers began with a comprehensive audit of feeding strategies, followed by adjustments to rations and feed formulations.

“We started three months ago. We selected farms for this project that were willing to embrace change and aim for greater results. And we succeeded – at the Vėlavičius farm, milk yield nearly doubled in a very short time,” says Žilvytis.

He emphasizes that such outcomes are only possible when collaboration is built on trust, precise analysis, and a systematic approach to the feeding process. “It’s not just about the feed. It’s a synthesis of all components – raw materials, precise formulation, feeding schedules, and feeding technologies. When everything is aligned, farm results improve naturally,” he explains.

Precision in Formulation – The Foundation of Efficiency

Kauno Grūdai employs a meticulous feed formulation system, developing tailor-made rations based on each farm’s specific needs and the physiological state of the livestock. According to Žilvytis, one of the company’s key competitive advantages is not only the ability to create precise feeding plans but also the capacity to continuously adapt them based on evolving farm data.

“Our team of formulators and feeding consultants works closely with farms – every week, we analyze feed consumption, milk yields, and even animal health indicators. This dynamic monitoring allows us to detect changes early and adjust formulations accordingly,” says the department head.

As with previous projects, Kauno Grūdai maintains the highest quality standards – feed raw materials are tested in their in-house laboratory, and the quality of finished products is verified through additional analyses.

Farm Audits – A Growth Opportunity

An essential part of the project is the initial farm audits. These assessments evaluate not only the composition of feed but also storage conditions, feeding regimes, and equipment. This holistic view enables Kauno Grūdai experts to offer sustainable solutions that genuinely improve the situation and create long-term value.

“We never claim that feed alone will solve everything. However, a precise, scientifically grounded ration, complemented by high-quality raw materials and proper feeding methods – that’s already half the victory. The rest comes from working with the farm, optimizing processes, and providing practical consultations,” Žilvytis stresses.

The cooperation with Kauno Grūdai is also highly valued by the farmers themselves. Representatives of the Vėlavičius farm note that working with professionals has brought more than just increased milk yields – labor costs have decreased, the feeding process has been optimized, and raw material wastage has been reduced.

“When you have a partner who responds quickly and whose recommendations are backed by data, it brings peace of mind to the farm. We can now focus more on herd welfare without worrying about feed,” says the farm owner.

Just the Beginning – Growth Ambitions Remain Strong

According to Žilvytis, these achieved results are merely an introduction to a broader partnership strategy. In the near future, Kauno Grūdai plans to expand cooperation and involve even more farms, aiming to prove that high-quality feed and an individualized approach can bring tangible breakthroughs to every Lithuanian farm.

“Modern dairy farming requires not only good genetics but also precise feeding. We have the knowledge, we have the product, we have the team – and now we have proven results. This model truly works,” concludes Vytautas Žilvytis, Head of the Cattle Breeding Department at Kauno Grūdai.
